Lesson 3 - No Death
No Death
Seven generations after Adam, a man called Enoch was born. Enoch’s life was unique to mankind because he never died. In the bible we read of only two people who never died. Their names were Enoch and Elijah. In Genesis 5:24, we read that despite the evil world present at that time, Enoch who walked with God, meaning he had a very close relationship with God. During this time, sin had already entered into the world and its result was displayed in the murder of Abel.
The result of sin is death and this is why man can’t live forever. However, Enoch was faithful to God and one day God took him and he was translated. God had removed him from this world without having to go through death. You might remember that Adam did not have a birth because God created him but he eventually died. Enoch however, was born but he did not die.
Boys and girls, do you know that we too can escape death, just like Enoch? We can escape something much more important than physical death called spiritual death. Spiritual death is total separation from God for all eternity. In 2 Thessalonians 4:16, the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ into this world is described. When did He come the first time, you might ask? He came the first time two thousand years ago when he was born into this world to bear the sin of the world on the cross of Calvary. He was nailed to a cross, not for any wrong that he had done (for he could not sin) but for your sins and mine. The purpose of His second coming is now to take those who believe on him, to Heaven with Him. These christians who are alive when the Lord Jesus comes, will escape not only physical death but also spiritual death.
The Lord Jesus Christ was born into this world to die for the sin of the world. He died for sins he did not commit. We were born into this world as sinners, deserving death. However, there is a way we can escape the punishment of our sins because Christ has paid it all on the cross of Calvary. If you will only accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour and believe that He died on the cross for your sins, then you will not see spiritual death and you will be in heaven with Christ forever.
