Lesson 8 - He Is Not Here
He Is Not Here
Have you ever phoned someone or visited a friend and been told that they were not home? I’m sure you have. A long, long time ago, some women were told that the person they were visiting was not there. They might not have been too surprised if the place they were visiting was not a grave site.
Three days after the Lord Jesus had been crucified and buried, a few women who loved Him very much, came to visit His grave. In the days of the Bible, people were buried in something called a sepulchre. A sepulchre is a hole cut out of a rock (large enough to place a body), which was covered at the mouth with another large rock.
When the women came to the sepulchre where the Lord laid, they saw that the stone was rolled away and the grave was open. They entered the sepulchre and saw a man clothed in a long white garment. They were frightened. He said to them, “Don’t be afraid, you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is risen, he is not here.” Imagine how the women would have felt. Someone whom they all loved was buried there and He was missing. Where was the Lord Jesus Christ? Why was He not in His grave? The reason is because God had raised Him from the dead. Many, many years before it had already been written that after three days, he would rise from the dead.
Children, the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross at Calvary to save us from our sins. He was not an ordinary man. He was the Son of God who was sent into this world to be crucified on the cross but is now no more in the grave. He is alive. He had the power to take his life and had the power to raise it again. Those women in Mark 16 v 6, saw an empty grave. The Lord Jesus is now in heaven preparing a place for those who have believed on Him and have accepted Him as Saviour. If you believe that the Lord Jesus has died on the cross for you then you will have a home in heaven and eternal life will be yours. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved (Acts 16 v 31).
